Ashbergers and herbs?

Postby charlesbrough1234567 » Sat Jul 31, 2010 5:58 pm

I have a 12 year old male relative with diagnosed Ashbergers. He is constantly moving all day long by himself as he plays with his little electronic gadgets, TV and little things that represent people. He has all the symptoms and takes a medicine on school days that calms him down so he can bear school. But the drug surpresses his appetite and keeps him as skinny and short. He has an incredably high I.Q.

Anyway, we talked once with a nurse about it and she recommended we buy a Native Remedies brand bottle of "Focus." It is described as an herbal formula and the friend said it enabled one case she knew of to get off his or her prescribed drug. We thought of buying a bottle and shipping to the family to try, but hesitate since the Internet page does not enlarge the image of the bottle or show its contents. Also, it seems high priced. Has anyone here had any experience with it?

In my humble opinion, you should not bother buying that thing. I'm just curious though - where did you talk to that nurse who recommended buying it? Also, what medication is he curently taking? Unfortunately (or fortunately), the best way to go is through a registered general practitioner (local doctor), and perhaps get a referral from him/her to a specialist who deals with the issues your relative faces.

Yes, we are also hesitant to recommend it to them. They have had a medical doctor treating him for a year or two and he has him on VYVANSE. The website for the herbal stuff is at http://www.nativeremedies.com/products/ ... mulaC.html Like you, I am not a big fan of herbs. But the thought of taking something like it and getting off of the drug is tempting because it surpreses his appetite and he is very thin.

Im not a fan of them either, to be honest. I have not heard of Vyvanse before either, but there are other medications out there to treat ADHD (Vyvanse is used to treat ADHD). I think that they should just stick with the doctor and perhaps request a medication change. They could mention this 'herbal remedy' to him, just to gauge his opinion on it.

Thanks, Chucky . . .

I won't recommend it to them. He goes without the Rx all summer and on weekends and manages to eat more then. I have noticed he is filling out a triffle and growing taller.
