I love this forum - feel like I belong

Postby mepoohe » Sat Jul 31, 2010 5:50 pm

It's so nice to come here and look at the topics that apply to me, and find comments that directly apply to my life and how I am. After so long of feeling different, it's very comforting to know there are people who have the same struggles and similarities in life. I don't feel so "alone" in the world.

I know, I have got in touch with some people outside the forum with AS recently via email and uni. It is nice to be in touch with people who go through the same things I do and think in a similar way. I have had relatively little contact with people with AS throughout my life and this is the largest collection I have ever encountered! I only started posting a few months ago but I can engage and discuss interesting topics and personal issues with people who understand and are accepting of those little quirks we all have.

It also opens me up to how different people experience AS and what it means to them, it is broadening my horizons and building my understanding of myself as a whole and why others think the way they do. I have also given advice to a few people which is not something I do very often.

Yes, I know what you mean as well. I'm not so different when I come here, even when I know only about 3 in 10,000 people have this syndrome.

I only came because someone said there was free cake 8)

Unfortunatly, I regret to inform you Kit and Cooper that the cake is/was a lie. The forum is real though so at least some good news  Sorry, couldn't resist.

I can see what you mean though, being part of a group of like minded people is like biting into a sweet cake and savouring the lovely flavour.

I wish Portal hadn't made me incredibly motion sick. :(

/edit and I've derailed your thread, damn all.

I too feel more at home here than I ever have on a forum, cake or no cake. :)

I agree. I have recently discovered this forum and the majority of the forum posts read like a page out of my own life. I never knew why I felt and acted the way I do until now. It has been an enlightening experience.
