is this taking it too far?

Chester woman's ice skate attacker freed because she has Asperger syndrome

i must admit, i'm really in awe of this one. how can anyone possibly think that AS is an excuse for a completely unprovoked attack that leads to grievous bodily harm? i have to say that i think this kind of ruling isn't justified based on AS alone. it seems to imply that people with AS aren't at all responsible for their own actions, and i simply can't agree with that.
something knocked me out' the trees

oh god.

well it's the trigger thing isn't it.

and she probably didn't even think about the ice skate in her bag.

erm, I don't think it should be a let off. I didn't get let off my caution for common assault. Mind you, I don't have an AS dx yet and even if I did, I wouldn't have told them about it.

You have to take responsibility for your actions and take the consequences.

That's my thought on the matter.

However, it's nice to see that AS is getting the same treatment as Schizophrenia in the form of 'defence' from the justice system now. Can't say that didn't bring a small smile to my face.

But ofc, no, I'm joking. I think it's wrong.

Was she smoking in a non smoking area?

No. It's wrong.

See the battle I'm fighting in my own head here now Shock. lol.

NO.

She shouldn't have been let off.

Which she wasn't, she was convicted. She just didn't go "inside". So it probably has more to do with "no room in the inn" than compassion or justification.

But maybe she should've got some "time".

Who knows, if she didn't have a criminal record before, perhaps that in itself is enough to make her think twice in future. After all, if she even does the smallest thing to warrant a caution in the next 12 months, she's going in for the whole shabang.

And punishment can still occur on the outside and having a criminal record will hold her back, particularly jobwise.

Phew, got there in the end.

I think.
